Castelo is a promontory by the sea in the town of Palmera – A Coruña, where a fortification stood until the middle of the 15th century, which was demolished in one of the Irmandiñas Revolts by Pedro Madruga. Today, on top of those stones stands the statue of the emigrant who symbolizes the diaspora of the Galician people. In this way José Antonio, the owner of Hinca El Castillo, wants to preserve his roots in this adventure undertaken in the municipality of Abegondo.
Hinca el Castillo was born with an objective based on the concern of getting healthy food from the land without using any product that is harmful to people or the environment.
Thus arises the farm based in the parish of Leiro (city council of Abegondo), dedicated to the production of horticultural and fruit trees.
In Hinca El Castillo we try to carry out sustainable and organic agriculture, trying to be self-sufficient. The organic remains of the pile are recycled (clearing material, pruning remains, surplus products) to produce compost with which to fertilize the land, reusing as much as possible and avoiding consuming new resources:
Organic fertilizers from surrounding farms are used exclusively.
The installation of shelters for useful fauna is encouraged to contribute to biodiversity and to the natural control of crop pests.
Crop associations are promoted for maximum respect for the land and for the control of pests and diseases.
Synthetic chemicals are not used.
The farm has about 6,000 m2 of open-air production (distributed between the municipalities of Abegondo and Culleredo) dedicated to a wide range of horticultural varieties along with a representation of fruit trees such as apple trees, cherry trees, pereira trees, citrus fruits and fruits of bear. Everything is supported by small sheltered infrastructures (about 60 m2) mainly aimed at seedlings and the production of own seedlings.
Marketing is focused on home deliveries for private customers in the area of the Biosphere Reserve and the city of A Coruña. Product availability is published every week and orders are received by phone, whatsapp or email.
